Orlando Pirates provide update on Relebohile Mofokeng’s injury

Orlando Pirates have given more details on Relebohile Mofokeng’s injury.

The 20-year-old was injured earlier this month during a Betway Premiership against Siwelele. Having missed Bafana Bafana’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Nigeria, the winger also missed a few matches for the Sea Robbers.

He was also left out of the team that got thrashed in DR Congo by Saint-Éloi Lupopo in the second round of the CAF Champions League.

On Tuesday, Pirates gave an update on Mofokeng’s injury ahead of their clash with Polokwane City.

“The Buccaneers could still be without attacking midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng, who sat out the trip to West Africa, along with the likes of Deano van Rooyen and Tapelo Xoki who have both been on the sidelines over the past few weeks,” the club wrote.

Mofokeng has missed key fixtures for Pirates this season

The 20-year-old attacker has missed three matches for the Sea Robbers due to injury. In the 12 matches he featured in, Mofokeng only provided one assist and has not looked sharp so far this season.

He is set to miss Wednesday’s clash at the Orlando Stadium against Rise and Shine. Despite losing 3-0 in DRC Congo, the Buccaneers still have another impressive streak to maintain, having won each of their last five league matches to take up a spot in the top three of the Premiership standings.

Mofokeng’s injury a worry for Pirates

They defeated TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium in their last league outing, maintaining a solid run in front of the Bucs faithful, who have not witnessed a defeat since the opening day of the league campaign.

With games in hand, Pirates could strengthen their position in third place with another win that could see them pull away from the rest of the five teams currently tied on 15 points.

The Buccaneers host St Lupopo this weekend in the second leg of the CAF CL and it remains to be seen if Mofokeng could play a role in the fixture.

Will Mofokeng rediscover his form?
